Anivia, the Cryophoenix

Overview:

Anivia's current kit is solid, gameplay-wise - it has a clear goal, an iconic tool to master, and plenty of internal synergy. That said, it's a kit that feels like it could fit just as well on any other ice-themed mage; in other words, the Anivia that throws around ice spells is much, much more "cryo" than "phoenix."

The changes I prescribed in my initial Anivia redesign were meant to bring out her more avian qualities, and that's still the case with this update. Here, I'm mostly looking to smooth out some of the more jagged interactions within her kit and do some light mechanics cleanup.

-

Facing off against Anivia should still feel like braving a living blizzard, but now the counterplay against her (especially in mid-lane sieges) should be more clear and accessible: namely, take solace behind your minion wave, or find a hearty ally and press forward.

Her Innate has also been greatly simplified (and like with Glacial Storm, encourages foes to huddle together), and likewise, some of the rough edges of Crystallize and its interactions with Anivia's other abilities have been weathered down.

-

Some format changes (and a missing wall) aside, this Anivia isn't all too different from the current version. Her main method of long-term zone control lives on in her new Q, her overall gameplay loop is still about freezing and shattering enemies, and her ability to turn into an egg in order to recover remains - although now, it's a more active element of her playstyle, rather than something that only happens due to fatal mistakes.

All values in blue are meant to give a general idea of the ability's properties, and are subject to change.

Class: Artillery

Recommended Positions: Solo Midlane

Complexity: Low

Innate: Winter's Chill

Enemies affected by Anivia's abilities become Chilled for 3 seconds, reducing their movement speed by 20%. Enemies that remain Chilled for 6 seconds become Frostbitten, reducing their movement speed by an additional 20% and grounding them. Enemies will remain Frostbitten for up to 3 seconds after being affected by Anivia's abilities.

Enemies become Frostbitten 100% faster and recover from being Frostbitten 100% more slowly while not within 425 units of an ally champion or 225 units of an ally minion.

Q: Glacial Storm

Anivia channels for up to 6 seconds, blowing a freezing gale in the target direction for the duration. Enemies within the gale take 60/90/120/150/180 + (50% AP) magic damage per second and are pushed back at a rate of 100 units per second.

Glacial Storm consumes 1 Frigid Feather each second, rooting enemies caught in the gale for 0.5 seconds.

Enemies behind terrain and other enemies affected by Glacial Storm are protected from its effects.

Range: 1100 (range), 500 (width)

Targeting Type: Skill Shot - Line

Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 (once channel ends)

Cost: 60/80/100/120/140 mana

W: Crystallize

Anivia summons 6 Frigid Feathers that float around Anivia for up to 12 seconds and empower her other abilities.

Enemies that come within 250 units of Anivia will cause the feathers to shatter, dealing 60/85/110/135/160 + (45% AP) magic damage to all nearby enemies and stunning them for 1.25 seconds. If an enemy causes all 6 Feathers to shatter, the stun duration is doubled.

Range: Self

Targeting Type: None

Cooldown: 16/15/14/13/12

Cost: 70 mana

E: Flash Frost

Anivia shatters the ice from all Frostbitten enemies after a 0.75 second delay, dealing 100/150/200/250/300 + (100% AP) magic damage and removing Frostbite from them.

While preparing this ability, all remaining Frigid Feathers will fly towards nearby enemies, Chilling them, and immediately inflicting Frostbite if they are already Chilled.

Range: 1100 (shatter range), 750 (feather range)

Targeting Type: None

Cooldown: 10/9.5/9/8.5/8

Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 mana

R: Rebirth

Anivia encases herself in an egg made of ice and begins channeling for up to 10 seconds, regenerating 10/15/20% of her health and mana per second and Chilling nearby enemies.

Rebirth immediately converts all remaining Frigid Feathers into an icy shell, shielding her for 50/75/100 + (25% AP) per Feather and negating incoming disables while the shield holds. This shield quickly decays once Anivia emerges from the egg.

Range: 300 (chill radius)

Targeting Type: None

Cooldown: 60/40/30

Cost: None
