Galio, the Colossus


Galio is one of the few awkward cases where I redesigned the kit based on the champion's current theme, and then they received a VGU that completely changed their character. One could say that the changes were so extreme that they "Trundled" Galio - turning a somber gargoyle into a massive rugby player with rocks for brains. 

In this case, unlike with that ugly little guy who is very special to me, I'd like to approach this (re)redesign in a way that keeps the mechanical hooks of the first redesign, the tone of the original champion, and the tools and worldbuilding brought by the VGU.


The resulting iteration of Galio that emerges from the rubble is what I'd like to consider a monument to each version's most solid components: an anti-magic fixture upon the battlefield, who is always watching with many pairs of stony eyes and exerting a larger-than-life global presence.

I wanted to keep him uniquely Demacian without just being another bombastic loudmouth who charges into the fray, so much like how Swain is now a different take on the types of Noxian "strength," Galio is a different representation of Demacian ideals, standing stalwart with unbreakable resolve and inspiring the bombastic loudmouths that charge into the fray in front of him.


With this being a mish-mash of different Galios, I did want to preserve some of the more unique elements of his current kit first and foremost, at least in spirit. The unique cast paradigm of his Righteous Gust is probably the most literal element I've kept, but I also made sure to retain his identity as a protective global presence who can put the kibosh on spell-happy mages. 

I think it's safe to say that he's now an even more oppressive force against ability-reliant champions, with a wide repertoire of skills that can interrupt ability combos, blunt enemy sieges, and keep the Colossus from getting blown apart. With his new Ultimate (and Sivir's spell shield - redesign pending), he essentially becomes an additional turret for his team to rally around, knowing that the big guy's got their back.

Innate: Petricite Gaze

Enemy champions that enter Galio's vision range become marked by his gaze for 3 seconds. If a marked enemy attempts to use an ability, it will fizzle and Galio will deal 15 to 200 (based on level) + (60% bonus MR) + (50% AP) magic damage to them.

Enemies who have recently been marked are immune to this effect for 15/12/9 (based on level) seconds.

Q: Righteous Gust

FIRST CAST: Galio stretches his wings for up to 4 seconds, increasing Righteous Gust's range over the first 2 seconds. Righteous Gust is cancelled when the charge ends.

SECOND CAST: Galio launches two powerful gusts that arc to either side before converging to the target area, slowing enemies they pass through by 90% for 0.75 seconds. When the gusts meet, they form a tornado that persists for 2 seconds, dealing 80/115/150/185/220 +

(90% bonus MR) + (75% AP) magic damage upon creation and silencing enemies that stand within it.

Righteous Gust's targeting angle is limited to the angle of Galio's vision during The Sentinel's Vigil.

W: Colossus of Durand

Galio pulls a petricite Colossus out of the ground at the target location, which watches over the area in front of it and can apply Petricite Gaze to enemies it sees. Allies within its vision range accumulate a shield every 3 seconds that absorbs 15/17/19/21/23 + (3% max HP) magic damage, accumulating to up to 60/68/76/84/92 + (12% max HP).

Colossi have (50% max HP) health, 75% of Galio's magic resist, and 25% of Galio's armor. Colossi that haven't been damaged within 7 seconds regenerate 1.5% of their health per second. Galio can place up to 1/1/2/2/3 Colossi at once, with the oldest being destroyed if he exceeds this limit.

E: Resolute Shield

Galio shields himself with his wings, granting himself a spell shield for 1.5 seconds. If Galio blocks an ability with this shield, he restores 80/95/110/125/140 mana.

R: The Sentinel's Vigil

Galio enters a dormant state over 1.75 seconds, taking on the appearance of a Colossus of Durand and replicating their vision range, regeneration, and shielding aura, but becoming immobile and disarmed.

While within this state, Righteous Gust deals 4/6/8% + (0.66% per 100 AP) of enemies' maximum health as magic damage on impact, Colossus of Durand causes Galio to switch positions with the target Colossus after channeling for 3/2.5/2 seconds, and Resolute Shield lasts 50/75/100% longer. 

Upon re-activation, Galio will revert to his normal state over 1.75 seconds.
