Ivern, the Green Father

Overview:

Ivern, like Bard, is another champion that's very close to my heart. Also like Bard, his kit is one I take slight issue with expressly because it's so...bizarrely aggressive for such a happy, carefree, and benevolent character. He's ended up being one of the champions that's really grown on me since his launch, so these sorts of incongruous and unnatural elements are things I can't help but prune.

-

In addition to making the jolly green treant more non-confrontational, I've also pushed his kit even further towards his role in the jungle by leveraging the natural brush (or the patches of it that he creates) to increase his ability to peel enemies off of him and get from place to place as he sets his opponent's monster camps free.

In terms of his role as a jungler, I've also expanded upon his Ult to really take advantage of the breadth of fauna he befriends, and give him other ways to leverage his jungle success. Now, he can call upon the stronger blue and red buff camps to keep him company and chase enemies away from the river's objectives, or set a menagerie of smaller camps free to help his buddies push their respective lanes.

-

Most of Ivern's kit remains intact in some way (albeit in a generally less aggressive form), but his W has received the biggest changes. To match the "just passing by!" flavor of assistance he lends to his lanes, his new W allows him to send a little help to allies without going too far out of his way, further developing his niche as a jungler who can't swoop in and win your lane, but is constantly providing long-term support.

All values in blue are meant to give a general idea of the ability's properties, and are subject to change.

Class: Specialist

Recommended Positions: Jungle

Complexity: Medium

Innate: Friend of the Forest

Ivern cannot attack or damage non-epic monsters. Instead, targeting a jungle camp initiates a 2.5 second channel that, upon completion, places the monsters within a Grove. Placing a Grove costs 131 to 121 (based on level) health and 148 to110 (based on level) mana, and cannot be cast if Ivern lacks the resources. The channel cannot be cancelled in the first 0.15 seconds or the last 0.5 seconds.

The grove matures over 40 to 1 (based on level) seconds. When fully matured, Ivern can interact with the camp again to free the monsters after 0.5 seconds, sending them away while receiving their full gold and experience bounties. Smiting a large monster within a Grove will instantly free the camp's monsters, regardless of its maturity or the monsters' current health.

If the camp's large monster has already been slain, Ivern will free the camp upon completing the channel at no cost. Similarly, the grove will instantly mature if the large monster is slain.

Starting at level 5, freeing the Red Brambleback or the Blue Sentinel leaves behind a Sapling for 1 minute that can be picked up by an ally champion to gain the camp's buff, consuming it in the process. If at least one ally champion is nearby, Ivern can pick up the Sapling to transfer it to the nearest one in range. If an ally kills either monster, they also leave behind a Sapling for Ivern.

Q: Rootcaller

Ivern throws a vine in the target direction, dealing 80/125/170/215/260 + (70% AP) magic damage to the first enemy hit and slowing them by 15/20/25/30/35% for 4 seconds.

During this time, every 200 unit patch of brush the target moves near will throw a smaller vine towards them, increasing the slow by an additional 5/7/9/11/13% for the duration. Enemies hit by 3 vines (including the first) are rooted for 2.25 seconds.

Range: 1100 (Ivern vine range), 550 (brush vine range)

Targeting Type: Skill Shot - Line

Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10

Cost: 60 mana

W: Brushmaker

PASSIVE: Ivern stores a charge of Brushmaker every 40/36/32/28/24 seconds, up to a maximum of 3.

ACTIVE: Ivern grows a patch of brush at the target location for 30 seconds, revealing the area within and around it for 3 seconds. Brushmaker spawns more brush if used near terrain or other brush.

If Brushmaker is held, Ivern will instead channel for 1.75 seconds before leaping into the ground and reappearing at the target location. This effect has a 40/36/32/28/24 second cooldown between uses, doesn't require a charge, can only be used while within brush, and can only target other patches of brush.

Range: 1000 (brush placement range), 1500 (brush leap range)

Targeting Type: Skill Shot - Placement

Cooldown: 0.5

Cost: 30 mana

E: Forest's Gift

Ivern slows himself by 60% for 2.75 seconds, silencing and disarming himself for the duration, before sending a whirlyseed that careens gently towards the target ally champion or summon. The whirlyseed sprouts over 12 to 2 seconds (based on level), even while in flight.

Upon reaching the ally, the whirlyseed will hover around them, granting them 80/115/150/185/220 + (80% AP) shield that lasts until broken. Fully sprouted whirlyseeds will heal their target for 30/60/90/120/150 + (30% AP) once broken, increased by up to 100% based on the target's missing health.

If the target is within 50% of the ability's range, Ivern will send the whirlyseed to them without having to prepare and refund 50% of Forest's Gift's cost and cooldown.

Range: 1500

Targeting Type: Targeted

Cooldown: 24/22/20/18/16

Cost: 140 mana

R: Nature's Call

Ivern frees the jungle camp within the target Grove over 10/5/1 to 5/2.5/0.5 seconds based on the Grove's maturity, receiving a special leaf from them that lasts for the remainder of Nature's Call's cooldown.

While holding this leaf, Nature's Call can be re-cast to whistle through it, summoning the freed camp for 60 seconds or until their health is depleted. Freeing a small jungle camp refunds 75% of this ability's cooldown.

Freeing Gromp, Raptors, Murk Wolves, or Krugs will cause them to travel down the nearest lane, fighting enemies they encounter. Freeing Red Brambleback or Blue Sentinel will summon Rustle or Daisy (respectively), who follows Ivern and will attack the enemy closest to him.

Gromp has 625/1250/1875 + (25% AP) health, deals 35/50/85 + (15% AP) magic damage with each attack, and gains 100% bonus attack speed that decays over 5 attacks, and refreshes after not attacking for 5 seconds.

The Crimson Raptor has 235/938/1455 + (17% AP) health and deals 44/62/106 + (20% AP) magic damage with each attack. Its chicks have 20% of its health and deal 20% of its damage. Raptors will only attack enemy minions and structures.

The Greater Murk Wolf has 235/938/1455 + (17% AP) health and deals 44/62/106 + (20% AP) magic damage with each attack. Its pups have 50% of its health and deal 50% of its damage. Murk Wolves will prioritize attacking nearby enemy champions.

The Ancient Krug has 625/1250/1875 + (25% AP) health and deals 35/50/85 + (15% AP) magic damage with each attack. Upon splitting, Krugs have 50% of their prior health and damage. Krugs prioritize attacking enemy structures and deal 50% bonus damage to them.

The Rift Scuttler reveals the area 1100/1500/1900 units around Ivern for 4/6/8 seconds.

Rustle has 940/1875/2910 + (35% AP) health, deals 88/125/212 + (40% AP) magic damage with each attack, and slows enemies it attacks by 25% for 3 seconds.

Daisy has 1250/2500/3750 + (50% AP) health, deals 70/100/170 + (30% AP) magic damage with each attack, and stuns enemies for 1.5 seconds with every third attack.

Range: 475

Targeting Type: Targeted

Cooldown: 160/140/120

Cost: 100 mana
